Bible Verses: Matthew 26:31-68

Jesus, the Son of God and the Son of Man, chose to obey His Father and drink the full cup of suffering and wrath in order to purchase eternal life for believers. Even though He would be betrayed and endure false accusations, mockery, physical abuse, and death, Jesus accepted the foretold plan of His Father and fulfilled His identity as the promised Messiah sent as the Savior of the world.

Theological Theme:

Jesus is the Son of God and the Son of Man, sent by His Father to Be God for Man, and to be Man for God, being God’s Judgment on our sin.

Christ Connection:

In the garden of Eden, Adam failed to resist the serpent and chose instead to follow His way over God’s. In the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus, the second Adam, submitted fully to His Father’s purpose and plan. He willingly submitted to death upon the cross. Jesus demonstrated His identity as the Son of God through both His words and actions as He was betrayed, arrested, and put on trial.

“By saying then, ‘If it be possible, let it pass from me,’ he showed his true humanity. But by saying, ‘Nevertheless not as I will, but as you will,’ he showed his virtue and self-command. This too teaches us, even when nature pulls us back, to follow God.” –John Chrysostom (circa 347-407)

Missional Application:

God the Father calls us to embrace suffering willingly as we participate in the Life of His Son, our Savior, whose mission was to seek and save the lost, in the Spirit.

“All the oracles of God, all the scriptures both of the Old Testament and the New, describe so many scenes of divine providence…Those who bear this on their minds will easily perceive that the inspired writers never lose sight of it but preserve one unbroken, connected chain from the beginning to the end. All over that wonderful Book as life and immortality (immortal life) is gradually brought to light so is Immanuel, God with us, and His kingdom ruling over all.” 8 –John Wesley (1703-1791)

The Redeemer Responds

Jesus Is Redeemer (Exodus 1-3)https://trinityandhumanity.files.wordpress.com/2016/06/05-15-16-the-redeemer-responds-genesis-2-23-3-22-tah-guest-stonesifer.mp3”

Theological Theme: God is good and just. He sees the suffering of the oppressed and promises redemption.

Christ Connection: God told Moses His name “I AM” as a revelation of His good and righteous character. Jesus is the great “I AM” who gave us an even greater revelation of God’s goodness and righteousness.

Missional Application: God calls us to be conscious of the plight of the oppressed and, in response, to show and share the love of God.

The Hope of Glory

We huddled in a small room above a sympathetic citizen’s house. It was a tense time here in the Middle East. Christians were being rounded up and killed in horrible ways. It has been astonishing to us to witness the cruelty human beings are capable of inflicting on each other. The most glaring example is the Crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ. For a moment on that rooftop, as we were being systematically hunted down and slaughtered, we felt as though we could identify with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Then one of the ladies in the group made a suggestion that, at first, seemed odd and then perfectly logical and monumentally Christ-like. “Let’s pray for those who persecute us, just like Jesus taught.” She said. We dreamed aloud to each other about the potential for the spreading of the Gospel if just one of those powerful persecutors would REL_G_002come to know Jesus and follow him.

You know what… one did. One of the men we prayed for that day met Jesus in a vision and became one of the most powerful Gospel preachers of our day. He even went on to plant churches, write many letters, and died the Martyrs death innocently murdered by Nero because he was a Christian. His name… Saul of Tarsus. He goes by Paul now and he is a wonderful Christian brother.

I think it is very likely that similar situations occurred during the persecution of the Early Church. It should be very easy for us to imagine the persecuted Christians of Saul’s day praying for him to meet Jesus.

Two and a half weeks ago at Richmond Grace I gave a message on the first Sunday of Advent called Hope Sunday about this very topic. It was before San Bernardino but just after the Paris attacks. The message, for me, was difficult to craft as my anger over the senseless taking of human life was very real. In my study I did my best to develop a message around hope but the world around me seemed awfully hopeless. In prayer I was reminded of Colossians 1:27 where the former Saul of Tarsus wrote that Christ in us was the hope of glory. Jesus in us is our hope.  The Father, Son, and Spirit has included Humanity in the life of love they have shared for eternity and it is true for terrorists whether they choose to participate in it or not.

Maybe we should pray for these Terrorists. I don’t mean pray that the bombs that are dropping around them will find their mark. In fact, at Richmond Grace on Hope Sunday we passed out a list of some of the top terrorist leaders around the world so that our members could pray for them specifically and by name.

What I am offering is the following suggestion: What if one of the men on this list is the next Saul of Tarsus? What if one of these terrorists met Jesus in a vision? (the most common way Muslims in Muslim countries are coming to belief in Jesus) What if one of the men on that list became a powerful voice for the Gospel of Peace… the Gospel of Jesus Christ who is the Savior of the World! That indeed would be something worthy of a place in our prayer lives.

So will you join us at Richmond Grace Fellowship and pray for the men on this list? It could just change everything!      ~Bill Winn

The Good News Of Restorative Justice!

restorative justice

In this Gospel message entitled “THE GOOD NEWS OF RESTORATIVE JUSTICE!” guest speaker, Mako Nagasawa, Proclaims the GOOD NEWS of The God Revealed in Jesus Christ at New Life Fellowship of Baltimore! Mako proclaims God’s vision for GENEROUS giving and the importance of Jesus giving us A NEW HUMANITY, EMPOWERING US to bring more of His JUSTICE and LOVE into this world!

In this message we understand that:

  • God has a GREAT vision for EVERY kind of relationship including Economic and Political relationships, and involving Historic Injustice. He has been very specific with us, biblically, about what that should look like on the lending and borrowing of money by fostering good banking practices, and opposing bad banking practices!
  • Jesus took OUR HUMANITY to himself and, by His Spirit, shares with us a new humanity that filters out the toxins in us such as fear, jealousy, and grief, enabling us to reach out to the poor in mercy, forgiving others their debts even as we have been forgiven our debts from God our Father.
  • We are called to manifest the LOVE and RELATIONSHIP that exists within the TRIUNE GOD, and extend THAT kind of love to others; that love looks like the Father stirring up in us a deep concern and right way about how to care for each other in our communities and through the difficult times many people have fallen into!

Check out this practically challenging message!

In pt. 4 of this Gospel Series, Timothy Brassell of  New Life Fellowship of Baltimore, Proclaims the GOOD NEWS of The God Revealed in Jesus Christ with a new message entitled, “Why Jesus’ Church Fellowships MORE And MORE!” pt.4 (WHO Baltimore needs!).

As you grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ learn:

  • How much the current Baltimore troubles and the book of Hebrews in scripture have in common!
  • That the one way forward in the middle of the current passion and protest in Baltimore, MD. is for the body of Christ to BE the Body of Christ!
  • How to think out and share Christ-centered responses to current pressing questions such as: What does Baltimore need? and Who does Baltimore need? and Where is God in all of this?
  • the importance of remembering that behind every law and system is the person or persons who created or promotes those laws or systems!
  • What it means that we are made in the image of God and why this is important for addressing Baltimore’s current issues and the issues in your city, and even in all the world!

Also get Gospel insight and learn:

  •  More about the myths and idols concerning marriage, singleness, sex, celibacy and family life and be reminded that ANYTHING we idolize WILL kill us!
  • That in God’s Grace we have been given various forms of living in relationship but these are ONLY ways of living in Christ now in our present form but are NOT fully the end goal for our lives in relationship!
  • Why we all struggle so much and how WE CAN LIVE MORE IN THE RECONCILIATION worked out it in the entire human life of Jesus!
  • What process God uses to strengthen families in the world, bringing the future family of God into the present!

Hear in this message that ___________________ in Christ is the goal of Christ no matter your station in life or your current status as the Father’s Child. You CAN receive every day as a gift and receive it BEST by _______________ !  And that it isn’t ____________ that is wearing you out but ______________!

Tune in and participate by filling in all the blanks! 🙂

Why Jesus’ Church Fellowships More And More! pt.3

fellowship

In pt. 3 of this Gospel Series, Timothy Brassell of  New Life Fellowship of Baltimore, Proclaims the GOOD NEWS of The God Revealed in Jesus Christ with a new message entitled, “Why Jesus’ Church Fellowships MORE And MORE!” pt.3.

In this message you’ll:

  • Hear the Truly Good News in two awesome quotes that will fill your soul with God’s Goodness – one VERY OLD and one more recent!
  • Learn more of what the Church actually is and reconsider thinking of it the way the Apostle Paul does!
  • Have THREE MODERN MYTHS about the Church exposed in the Light of what the Church actually is!
  • Start to learn the place and importance of marriage, singleness and friendship as they relate to the Church and be challenged by missionary Gracia Burnham’s statement that “The point isn’t to grow old with your mate. That’s not the point. The point is …”

Tune in to hear the rest of that statement and MUCH MORE!

Why Jesus’ Church Fellowships More And More! pt.2

fellowship

In this Gospel Message Timothy Brassell of  New Life Fellowship of Baltimore, Proclaims the GOOD NEWS of The God Revealed in Jesus Christ through his Part 2 series entitled, “Why Jesus’s Church Fellowships MORE And MORE!” pt.2. He explores the Church in the Light of Jesus  by reading through Hebrews 10: 19-39, including comments and discussion with the congregation!

In this message you’ll learn some Church “basics” and things you can consider if you’re interested in being Jesus’ disciple or encouraging others to be His disciples, including:

  • The main positive of the Church in this world AND some of the challenges the Church faces as it stands for and against this world!
  • Who and what your main enemy is and why you absolutely CAN BE COURAGEOUS AND NOT AFRAID!
  • The fatal error in the old phrase which says “I think, therefore I am!”
  • The fact that as you take part in and with Jesus there is definitely Some One to say YES to, and some one to say NO to!
  • What Heaven REALLY is!
  • That the “The Church may have a building but that is not its place. The building may be the Church’s location, but it’s space is in ….”

Listen in as the rest of that last sentence is given and clarity is shed about the Church’s Life, including one major myth we have about Church!

Behold and Be-Held! Jesus Makes Everything New!

 jesus

https://trinityandhumanity.files.wordpress.com/2015/04/15-04-05-behold-and-be-held-jesus-makes-everything-new-1-cor-15-tah.mp3

In This Easter Resurrection Message Pastor Timothy Brassell of  New Life Fellowship of Baltimore, Proclaims the GOOD NEWS of The God Revealed in Jesus Christ through his message entitled, “Behold and Be-Held! Jesus Makes Everything New!” . In this message he shows through 1 Cor 15 that at the root of and core of our being is the risen Lord Jesus and He seizes and summons us to participate with him as He leads and guides in our day and in our humanity!

Hear in this message that:

  • Our celebrations during the Easter Season are not the Resurrection, but neither is our sadness and anxiety! JESUS is the Resurrection and our current celebrations and sadness point to Him!
  • You don’t have to feel pressured to prove Jesus rose but, as THE RESURRECTION and THE LIFE, Jesus creatively makes Himself known! Your role is to trust and obey Him as you witness to Him in the power of the Spirit at His direction!
  • The Resurrection is NOT primarily about life after death or our personal, me-centered salvation! Rather, it is about something ENTIRELY NEW and far more extensive = Life AFTER “life after death” and the entire cosmos!
  • Because of the way Jesus Revealed Himself in His Resurrection, He is not only alive as Lord but alive as God of Everyone and Everything! This means:
    • You must face the realization of being met by Him and challenged to be who you are in him in His grace!
    • Jesus not only has the right to be your Savior and the Center of your world but has the right to take you into the Center of His world!
    • You can experience freedom as His Father’s child ONLY under His Lordship and Mastery!
    • You get to take the Holy Spirit more seriously than your own frail humanity, though we all still live in the “already but not yet”.
    • You do not have to be afraid of the dark in any form or shape because when Jesus rose, YOU rose with Him THEN as an overcomer!
  • There is a challenge, promise, warning and question Easter brings to you, and the most important question in life is not your question but Jesus’ question to you, which is…….

….you’ll have to listen in to hear the answer and MUCH more of God’s Good News!
