Scripture: Revelation 4
Summary:
This first Sunday of Advent invites us to awaken from spiritual sleep and lift our eyes to the God who is both here and is coming. In This powerful sermon, Pastor Tim reminded us that time is not a dull, repetitive cycle but a purposeful, forward-moving story shaped by God’s self-revealing love. As Karl Barth writes, “God’s revelation is His self-unveiling, in which He speaks for Himself and acts for Himself; in which He makes Himself known.” Advent is this unveiling. God showing Himself, not staying hidden, not remaining distant, but revealing His heart through Jesus Christ.
Using the imagery of a spiral staircase, the sermon teaches that we are all moving either upward toward Christ, or downward away from Him. There is no neutral place in discipleship. To face Jesus in trust is to ascend by grace; to turn away is to drift downward. This sober picture is intensified by the reality of human fragility, the certainty of death, and the nearness of Christ’s return. We are closer to His final appearing today than we were last year, last month, or even yesterday.
Advent also calls us to understand the one coming of Christ expressed in a three-fold way:
- Christ came in the Incarnation.
- Christ comes now in the Holy Spirit.
- Christ will come again in His final, glorious Advent.
This is not confusion or contradiction, it is God’s relational, dynamic way of revealing Himself. As T.F. Torrance beautifully puts it, “God does not remain at a distance but draws near to us in His incarnate Son, making Himself known within the fabric of our human existence.” This nearness is not metaphorical; it is the very heartbeat of Advent.
Pastor Tim also helped us understand biblical “separation from God” not as God’s absence but as our relational refusal. God is present everywhere, sustaining all existence, even in the depths. Hell itself is not the absence of God. Hell has to do with rejecting a relationship with the Father, Son, Holy Spirit God…And we know that separation from God is not something God chooses for people…Hell is the natural consequence of rejecting the relationship God continually offers.”
Advent calls us to reject our double-mindedness, embrace the God who is making Himself known, and respond with trust, repentance, and love.
As Advent begins, the message is clear:
Wake up. Lift your eyes. Receive the God who is here and coming. And invite others into this urgent, beautiful relationship while there is still time. Christ is coming soon and HIS PROMISE is our hope.

Scripture: 2 Kings 17
Summary:
In 2 Kings 17, we witness the heartbreaking fall of Israel, a nation blessed by God yet ruined by idolatry, compromise, and divided trust. Though God warned His people repeatedly through prophets, they refused to listen, rejecting His commands and chasing the empty promises of other nations, false gods, and their own desires. Israel’s downfall wasn’t sudden, it was the result of a long, steady drift from wholehearted devotion to God.
This powerful sermon by Pastor Melvin McKee reminds us that idolatry doesn’t always look like carved statues; it can show up as cravings for approval, security, power, pleasure, identity, or anything we elevate above God. When we place our hope in anything else, we eventually experience brokenness because idols cannot satisfy and cannot save.
Yet even in judgment, God’s heart is steadfast love. Like a Father who disciplines His children so they can live, He calls us to turn from what destroys us and return to Jesus, the only One who perfectly obeyed God and bore our judgment. Through the Spirit, God invites us to walk in true life, moving from idolatry to intimacy, from self-reliance to surrender, from wandering to worship, from spiritual emptiness to joy.

We all reach for things that promise comfort, control, identity, or security, but none of them can carry the weight of our souls.
Yet the good news is this: God never stops coming after His people. His warnings are mercy. His discipline is love. His judgment is not the end of the story but an invitation back to life.
Today, take a quiet moment to ask: Where is God inviting me to return, to trust, and to let go of what cannot save? The One who calls you away from idols is the same One who welcomes you with open arms.

In this powerful and deeply personal message, Pastor Timothy Brassell invites us to reimagine what it truly means to walk with God not just as Lord, but as Father. Drawing from Acts 2:29–41 and the foundational truths of the gospel, he challenges us to stop keeping our faith at arm’s length and instead, take it personally.
Pastor Tim reminds us that the good news of Jesus Christ is not just an idea or a doctrine, it’s a relationship. Jesus didn’t come to earth only to forgive sins or model righteousness. He came to show us the Father, and to bring us into the same relational communion He enjoys with Him. Jesus, even in His divinity, continually looked to the Father for every word, every move, every moment. That’s the model for us. Not religious striving, but relational surrender.
Repentance, Pastor Tim explains, is more than a one-time act for sinners. It’s a continual lifestyle for every believer, a daily turning away from self-reliance and back toward the loving gaze of the Father. Many of us think of repentance as something tied to guilt or shame, but biblically, it is an invitation into freedom. It is how we stay connected and soft-hearted, participating in the life that Christ has already made possible.
The Holy Spirit, then, becomes our vital connection point, the one who empowers us to repent, believe, and live in the reality of our identity in Christ. Even Jesus, the Son of God, received the Holy Spirit to fulfill His mission. How much more do we, in our weakness, need the Spirit’s power to live, love, and serve well?
Another core truth echoed throughout the sermon is that our identity is found in Christ, not in our performance. Jesus didn’t just die for us; He took on our entire human nature, redeeming it from within. This means we don’t relate to God based on how well we behave, but on how deeply we trust in who He says we are: beloved, included, and renewed.
Pastor Tim is also careful to remind us that salvation is not a transaction but a relationship, an ongoing journey of knowing and being known. It is possible to “believe” in theory while remaining distant in practice. The call of this sermon is to close that gap. To not just know about God but to be with God. This quote echoes Pastor Tim’s emphasis that God is not looking for performance, He’s longing for participation. He’s not impressed by how “useful” we are for the kingdom but rather how near we are to His heart.
Toward the end of the message, Pastor Brassell quotes C.S. Lewis to emphasize the seriousness of our spiritual decisions. Lewis writes:
“Every time you make a choice you are turning the central part of you, the part of you that chooses, into something a little different from what it was before… you are slowly turning this central thing either into a heavenly creature or into a hellish creature.”
This quote reminds us that our choices, even the subtle ones, carry eternal weight. We are always in formation, becoming more like Christ or more detached from Him. The beauty of grace is that we are never too far to return, but return we must.

Lately, I find myself pulling away from my relationships, becoming more guarded, and isolating. Thankfully, a good friend reminded me of the importance of staying connected, especially in today’s world.
As human beings, we are innately wired for relationships. From the moment we are born, we enter a network of connections that form the foundation of our lives. Romans12:5 speaks of God’s Church in this way, “So in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” This verse highlights that we are made for community since the Church is Christ’s body, and we’re all to be conformed to Christ, sharing life’s joys and burdens together. True relationships involve belonging and mutual care, just as God the Father shares His relationship with us through Christ, by the Holy Spirit.
C.S. Lewis tells us, “In Christianity, God is not a static thing—not even a person—but a dynamic, pulsating activity, a life, almost a kind of drama. Almost, if you will not think me irreverent, a kind of dance. The union between the Father and the Son is such a live, concrete thing that this union itself is also a Person… What grows out of the joint life of the Father and the Son is a real Person, is in fact the Third of the three Persons who are God.”
C.S. Lewis captures the heart of divine relationship—a life-giving, vibrant union, where each Person in the Trinity fully knows and is fully known. This union is the perfect model of community and intimacy, it is the kind of relationship that God [Father-Son-Holy Spirit] desires to share with us. Through Jesus, we are invited to participate in this divine dance of love and connection, not only with Him but also with one another.
However, just as we may struggle to bring our true selves before God, we often experience similar challenges in our earthly relationships. It’s easy to keep up appearances, to offer a version of ourselves that we think will be more acceptable or likable. We regularly find ourselves skimming the surface of true connection, hiding our real selves behind walls of privacy and guardedness. We text instead of talk, scroll through social media instead of sharing our hearts. Likewise, we tend to show only the parts of ourselves that we feel safe exposing, frequently leaving the deeper, more vulnerable aspects hidden. While we may still be surrounded by family or friends, these relationships can feel hollow when we are not fully present, withholding the authenticity that fosters genuine connection.
Opening up in this way IS risky because the other person may not return our love. However, the thing that makes relationships risky is the only thing that allows us to be relationally safe! In hiding, we risk missing out on the depth and richness that comes from being unconditionally known and loved, flaws and all. It is only when we dare to be vulnerable, we create space for genuine connection. It is in this openness that we reflect the relationship God desires for us, and that we were made for by Him: one where love and trust flow freely.
Just as getting close to God requires openness, as Lewis writes, “If you want joy, power, peace, eternal life, you must get close to, or even into, the thing that has them.” This same principle applies to our relationships with others. If we want deep, meaningful bonds, we must draw near, remove our defenses, and allow ourselves to be truly seen.
The beauty of relationships is that they are not only about the joy of being loved but also the joy of loving others in their authenticity. When we embrace our real selves in Christ, we mirror the life-giving union of the Trinity, a union built on openness, intimacy, and love in our relationships. In this way, our relationships become not only a source of personal fulfillment, but also of fulfillment for the other; a reflection of God’s relationship with us, inviting us to live out the fullness of what it means to be MADE FOR RELATIONSHIPS in response back to God. To give as we have been given. 1 John 1:7 tells us “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another….” This verse emphasizes openness and authenticity, both with God and with others. Walking in the light implies living in truth and vulnerability, which leads to true fellowship and connection with one another.
In John 17:21, Christ says “That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me, and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” This verse echoes being invited into the divine relationship through Christ and extending that union to our relationships with others. Dietrich Bonhoeffer in “Life Together” speaks to the importance of Christ in Relationships, especially when we feel the need to isolate: “The Christian needs another Christian who speaks God’s Word to him. He needs him again and again when he becomes uncertain and discouraged… The Christ in his own heart is weaker than the Christ in the word of his brother; his own heart is uncertain; his brother’s is sure.”
In a world that often encourages isolation and superficial connection, let us choose a different path—the path of authenticity. Let us step into the dance that God [Father-Son-Holy Spirit] has invited us to, bringing our full selves, and in turn, welcoming others to do the same. When we do, we will discover that the greatest joy of all is found not in hiding, but in being fully known and fully loved.

Bible Verse: Romans 12: 1-2
Introduction:
“There is no point in playing down the staggering significance of the incarnation and resurrection. God the Creator of the universe, transcendent over all time and space, has himself become a creature within time and space, the man Jesus Christ… within the measures and limits’ of our human historical existence, he is at work in immeasurable love defeating the forces of darkness, irrationality and evil within creaturely being where they are…entrenched. The eternal Word-and-Reason of God has become human flesh, personally penetrating into and participating in…our existence!!” – T.F. Torrance, “Space, Time and Resurrection”
It is better to think of this Christian life mainly as something that God will pull off by grace and not something that you will pull off by works. The Father, through The Son, by The Spirit, meets us in the world in which we live right now. In the middle of the mess. The Father and The Son have broken into our chaos, along with The Holy Spirit and every BREAK-IN by Jesus is a BREAK-WITH the something else that was creating the chaos and holding us hostage.
Theological Theme:
Father, Son and Spirit God IN GRACE has given HIMSELF AS GRACE to be among us and to lead us from wherever he is right now. You are the beloved child of God in Jesus Christ. The beloved child the Father always wanted. This is not possible to believe and receive part from receiving the Hoy Spirit and having Spiritual union with Jesus Christ. Our Father is not discouraged that you, personally, have not yet fully received this truth about yourself but, encouragingly, He has made provision in His Son, Jesus Christ, to receive all those things on your behalf and in your place, so that you can trust him and grow up into Him, increasingly, by His grace!
Christ Connection:
We are being called by Jesus to have our minds renewed. “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the Champion who initiates and perfects our faith. This is possible because he has gone before us and “Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.” – Hebrews 12:2, and he sends us the holy Spirit.
There is not a year on this earth or a political situation anywhere where Jesus is not human now and king of the universe. There is not a minute of pandemic and panic-filled life that Jesus is not the Savior of the whole world. Jesus meets us first as The Word, as The ONE who speaks to us, who lovingly comes to us and embraces us, who speaks a word of grace and love and goodness and gospel to us about Who he is and also who we are in him.
Missional Application:
We have the Person of the Holy Spirit of God. The very Spirit of the Father and Son. The Holy Spirit is the way that God is. He is God’s exact characteristics being God of God himself. He shares with us the characteristics of Jesus The Son who is always giving Himself in self-sacrificing, self-giving love for the other for the sake of the Father. The Spirit is the answer to the questions: “What has Jesus done for us and done on our behalf?” “What is He doing for us now? “How will that reach us?” “How will we participate with Jesus and what He is doing to glorify His Father, to honor Him?”
The answer is: He is poured out on the human race and from Whom we are given grace and power from Jesus to receive him. All people everywhere are continually encouraged to turn from their sin, turn to Jesus and relate with him in the communion of the Holy Spirit, becoming the saved and adopted children of God.

Living Into This Challenging Christian Life With Jesus!
Introduction:
The Christian Life is living out and manifesting the reality of our union and communion with Jesus Christ. Our purpose in life is to be close to The Father! Even in our weakness, the Lord will strengthen us in this relationship as we trust Him! When our Lord Jesus Christ reappears gloriously, we too will be glorified and blameless in Him! Until Jesus’ reappearing, the Christian life is a challenging life – lived out only in union and communion with the Father, through the Son and in the Holy Spirit!

Theological Theme:
At times God [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] has to ask: “Have you forgotten who I am? Be encouraged! I AM Your Father, the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ!” You are my children! I sent my one and only Son to put my life in you! Your children may escape rebuke and correction but my children don’t! Who loves children more, the one who lets them walk right into harm’s way with no consequence, or the One who openly rebukes them, trains them, disciplines them, and makes them free in Christ? Open rebuke is better than secret love!”
Christ Connection:
Jesus is God’s purpose for all creation, therefore, what Jesus did, mankind can now do by His Grace in The Holy Spirit. Our worldview should be the Person of Jesus Christ as mediated to us by the Holy Spirit and met in Holy Scripture. The scripture proclaims that Jesus is the one man for all men and women. Jesus is the One Human Substituting for and Representing all humans. What Jesus did, mankind can do in the Spirit after Jesus! Jesus didn’t do what he did in response to the Father so that you wouldn’t have to do it – Jesus did what he did so you and I could do it too, in participation with Him. Jesus calls out to us: “Fix your eyes on me and do what I did and still do in you!”

Missional Application:
The Holy Spirit does proclaim to us personally and individually – “You’re included”, but that is not the only word of the gospel. The Holy Spirit also proclaims and moves in us to “Go and Make Disciples!” Salvation, forgiveness, redemption, etc. are not just words to proclaim or thoughts to think individually but actions in relationship to be lived out!

This Specific Message in the Series Points to the Truth in Christ that: To be made in the image of God in Christ is to be male and female, to be in union, distinction, and with equality. This message points to the clarity we can have regarding love gender, marriage and sex because of being made in the image of Jesus (The true Image of God).

” The most basic thing in Christianity is God – Father, Son and Spirit, who is the main event and the main activity. Since God is God – Father, Son, and Spirit, this means that at the center of everything is a relationship!…
He came into our flesh and he placed inside of our actual flesh His own relationship as Father, Son and holy Spirit. …..We are empty apart from God. We have our own natural life as he created. We have our natural relationships but those arn’t love because God is love and God has to be intimate with you in order for you to share in God’s actual love and life. So God had to come inside our humanity in Jesus Christ to place His love and life inside of our humanity so that we can actually taste of God’s real life and love…
