Scripture: Exodus 18: 1-27

Pastor Richard emphasizes the call for all believers to step into leadership roles, using the example of Moses and Jethro from Exodus 18. The message highlights that leadership in God’s kingdom is not reserved for the elite, but is a calling for everyone who follows Christ. Pastor Richard shares practical wisdom on how leaders should rejoice with others, relate to those around them, and wisely carry out their responsibilities through humility and reliance on God. He stresses the importance of vulnerability, relational ministry, and the need to rely on God’s wisdom, just as Moses did under Jethro’s guidance.

Key Points and Highlights

  1. Leadership is not just for pastors or prominent figures. All believers are called to lead by following Christ’s example in their daily lives.

🛡️ Rejoice with Others in God’s Work

  1. Leaders should take joy in what God is doing in the lives of others, as seen in Jethro’s celebration of God’s work with Moses and Israel.

💞 Relating to People is Key to Leadership

  1. Leadership begins with building relationships. Like Moses and Jethro, strong leaders take time to connect with those they serve.

Theological Theme: God our Father sent His Son Jesus to become sin in order to conquer sin.

Christ Connection: Just as the Israelites looked upon the bronze serpent lifted high on the pole and were healed, so also we look with faith upon Jesus Christ, who was lifted high on the cross, and experience Salvation from our sin.

Missional Application: Because Christ has become sin for us, getting rid of it, God the Holy Spirit empowers us to share with others that they, too, can and should look upon Jesus, receiving his love shown deepest on the cross, and receive spiritual healing.

Theological Theme: The tabernacle was built so it would be possible for our holy, unique and one-of-a-kind relational God to dwell among a sinful people.

Christ Connection: God instructed the Israelites to build a tabernacle so that He could dwell with them. God wants to be with His people. For this reason, God the Father later sent His Son, Jesus, to “tabernacle,” or dwell, with us.

Missional Application: As the people in whom God, Father, Son and Spirit dwells, we are called to manifest His glorious presence in the world in which we live.

This message of Good News is proclaimed to a congregation on mission with Jesus “Outside the Walls “of their Church bldg., literally.

The Gospel proclaims God, Father, Son and Spirit as the God who calls human beings to participate with Him in a special and gracious way that He provides in the power of the Holy Spirit. It reminds every member of Jesus’ Body that, even like God’s great leaders such as Moses, we can often keep giving God excuses as to why we don’t follow through on what He says. In the Light of His provision and grace Revealed in Jesus and in the power of the Spirit, our Father’s command comes to us through the Apostle Paul all the same, “See to it that you complete the ministry you have received in the Lord.”

Theological Them: Idolatry is putting something or someone in the place of God – Father, Son and Spirit.

Christ Connection: The children of Israel needed a mediator to intercede on their behalf. Jesus Christ is the mediator between God and sinful humanity; He intercedes on behalf of His people.

Missional Application: God calls us to intercede for people who need Him, appealing to His character and His will as we pray for their salvation.
