Jesus Has Created One New Humanity
I love my brother Stephen and he loves me. We don’t always agree on everything, of course, but when we disagree we try to treat each other with respect.
For example: I would never take a book that Stephen likes and values and throw it on a bonfire – no matter how much I disagreed with the content of that book.
I don’t know if I need to remind everyone that Muslims are our brothers and sisters, brought into the Father’s life by Jesus even though they don’t believe it yet (Rom. 5:18, Eph. 2:15). And I don’t know if I need to remind everyone that burning our siblings’ prized possessions is not the way to help them discover the truth of who they are in Christ.
But just in case you do need a reminder in advance of the planned insanity coming this weekend in Florida, I thought I’d go ahead and remind you.

Jonathan,
I always appreciate your ability to come up with a “homespun” example, something from real-life that makes sense of a heady, theological argument or a highly-charged, emotional issue like this one. You are absolutely right – hate and disrespect breed more hate and disrespect. I’ll bet the Holy Trinity feels the pain that we feel, as parents, when we watch our children have a name-calling, knock-down, drag-out fight. At our house, the perpetrators had to complete a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle together. Suprisingly enough, no one felt like fighting anymore once the puzzle was done. Now if we could only find a jigsaw puzzle big enough for this problem…
A jigsaw puzzle? That is the genius of the Holy Spirit! I may try that one with my kids.
Speaking of the Trinity and the jigsaw puzzle, but it looks like the problem was taken care of, since the pastor who wanted to do it suddenly had an “out of town experience” and canceled.

Yeah, on The Today Show he said that God had told him not to do it. I guess he realized God can speak to him through his neighbors!
More blog entries? Please? 🙂
We’re working on them! Hopefully we’ll have something new posted in the next week – thanks for the encouragement!
